Hurricane Safety

Hurricane Safety at
The Glades at ChampionsGate

In Florida senior living communities, hurricane preparedness is a vital part of ensuring the safety of older adults. At The Glades at ChampionsGate, we use comprehensive hurricane preparedness and emergency management plans to prioritize the well-being of all residents and staff. Our comprehensive plans are designed to address the risks associated with Florida’s hurricane season, from June through November.

Safety First: Our Hurricane Preparedness Commitment

Our top priority during a hurricane is to protect the safety and comfort of everyone in our senior living community. Our Hurricane Preparedness Plan follows the guidelines from the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and incorporates additional measures developed from our extensive experience in hurricane safety.

Sheltering in Place at The Glades at ChampionsGate

The Glades is built to meet Florida’s stringent building codes, designed to withstand high winds and potential flooding. Our facility is fully equipped to safely shelter residents in place throughout a hurricane.

In the event of a power outage, our backup generators maintain essential services such as lighting, air conditioning, and medical equipment. Going beyond state requirements, our generators also power kitchen operations, heating, and elevators to ensure residents’ needs are fully met. Additionally, we maintain a one-week supply of food and water for every resident to ensure uninterrupted care.

Keeping Families Informed

Staying connected with loved ones during a hurricane is crucial. At The Glades at Champions Gate, we are committed to providing regular updates to keep families informed throughout the storm.
